The School Readiness Initiative is West Contra Costa County is funded by First 5 Contra Costa County and the Community Services Bureau. The program feeds eighteen elementary schools in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. Staff work towards creating Kindergarten Transition Plans to make the transition to kindergarten comfortable for children. Parents of children who do not attend preschool are offered parent-child workshops, educational field trips, one to one home visits, and other contact with outreach workers. This increase parents’ ability and knowledge to help their child learn skills to succeed in kindergarten.
The School Readiness Initiative has become an integral part of the West Contra Costa community through its efforts to provide quality parent education and support for many schools across the county.
